Why is it that my skin oils eat the backs off Timex and other watches?

Answer:

It%26#39;s generally the acid in your system. I have it, and also, it will cause watches to stop. All jewelry except 14k gold and higher tarnishes on me. I have to coat the underside of jewelry with clear nail polish. I also buy what is called %26#39;moleskin%26#39; from the foot care area in the store, and put that on the back of my watch. That makes the difference for me. Sweat is acidic. Over time, it eats through certain metals. You will need to either get a watch with much thicker metal (and much higher price tag), or stop wearing the watches so much. Maybe get two and alternate wearing them. The acid in your skin is eating into the metal. You might try a military style watchband, where the watch has a layer of cloth under it.
