Why do some of my dvds display in 4:3 on xbox 360, I have VGA cable on a 1080p tv - 360 display set

I thought the 360 was suppose to upscale the dvds? I have a Samsung s4095d, the hd-dvd drive hooked up with VGA cables. My display is set to 1920x1080 but a handful of my dvds display 4:3. I thought the 360 would upscale all dvds to 1080p. My TV is set to 16:9. Is there something i%26#39;m not doing or I need to do to make the upscaling of dvds occur. With component cables the dvds automatically stretch to fit the screen, but VGA leaves it 4:3.

Answer:

You get whatever format was recorded on the DVD. Be sure to buy the format you like (most DVDs come in both formats, sometimes both formats are on the same DVD). Upscale or upconvert does not turn a 4:3 movie into a widescreeen, nor would you even want it to. Everyone would look too fat.
