Why do i have to buy cable t v in a "package" v.s. " a la carte"?

if you could pay for only the channels you want // which ones? and what would you pay per month?

this is due to the way the cable companies are set up, and regulations that they have to follow... if it wasnt for packages then many channels would be bankrupt, and not able to provide there service to those few who may want it... I subscribe to every channel.. except the seasonal sports packages, and forigen language channels, because i do nothing but watch tv.. Because they like money ... and I guess what the person above me said is true as well.
