Why do fax machines sound like crickets shirping when they send a fax?

Just wondered.

Answer:

It%26#39;s the way the two machine recognize and synchornize with each other. The machine that placed the call beeps until it gets an answering beep. This way, it knows there%26#39;s a fax machine on the other end. They then send a series of tones to check the speed they can talk to each other at and synchronize the data. i dunno, maybe theres a cricket in there.

in my opinion, fax machines dont sound like crickets.
