Which is the best portable GPS system on the market in terms of cost and coverage?

Answer:

I like Garmin too. Have had mine for many years. As for coverage, you can be anywhere in the world and should have access to 10 - 12 (24 are in orbit) satellites for most of the time. The system was designed this way. More if you get one the receives the Russian satellites. I could go on, but lets keep this simple.

Anyway I have a Garmin Etrex Legend (B%26W model) for my personal use. It was about $200 3 years ago. I am Team Leader of a local Search %26 Rescue unit which uses nothing but Garmin GPS (and a compass of course) when in the field. We use them mainly for their ease of use, battery time (about 24 hrs.on 2 AA), speed of satellite lock on (the time it takes to figure out where you are, ussually under 30 seconds most of the time around 12 seconds), and there size. Easy to carry around.

Anyway, hope this helps. :) It depends on what you are using it for? i l%26#92;really like my garmin. But it depends on the use. Mine is for geocaching and locating hunting spots stuff liek that. I dont use mine to travel or locate things that way. The smaller garmin units are affordable but you can go to a trimble unit and it willhave many more options and some run off of a palm pilot. Most have great coverage.
