Why do some Lamps require 2 full clicks to turn on?

Most lamps turn on with one turn of the switch, but some lamps have to be turned twice towards the same direction to be turned on? Why is that, isn%26#39;t one click enough? What does the first click do if it doesn%26#39;t turn on the lamp?

Just curious

Answer:

Normally these lamps are designed for a 3 way bulb. The each turn goes from off to on to bright to brighter. Because those lamps are dumb. They just need a little extra help. cause their old! or maybe cause it can be turned on by the wall switch when connected to a certain outlet. So one turn would be to turn it on and the other turn to decrease or increase the brightness.
