Why do some DVDs have wide screen on one side and full screen on the other but most have 2 separate

It%26#39;s not like the movie company can make extra money with 2 separate editions, people will buy one or the other, not both. So why not just make them all 2 sided discs? If there is actually a good reason then why do some companies do it and others don%26#39;t?

The simplest answer is that Single Sided Single Layer DVDs cost less than Double Sided Single Layer DVDs. So.. Marketing 101.

Then add into the fact that alot of DVDs now are written on Dual Layer DVDs which only can be written on one side.

To get a little most specific:

A Single Sided Single Layer DVD holds 4.7 Gigabytes

A Dual Sided Single Layer DVD holds a total of 9.4 Gigabytes

A Single Sided DUAL Layer DVD holds 8.5 Gigabytes.

Some movies now that come on Dual Layer DVDs actually have both Widescreen and full screen and you just select which you want from the Movie Menu.
