Why do radios make a lot of static when you move away from them, but when you are close the static c

I noticed this with my alarm clock. I turned the radio part of the clock on, and it was sitting on my floor. When I reached towards the clock, the static lessened; however, when I tried to move away, the static increased. I%26#39;ve also noticed this happening with my stereo as well. Is there a reason for this, or is it just me? lol

Answer:

yes, theres a perfectly good reason 4 this. our bodies produce electromagnetic charges which are continuously discharged. hence the reason for getting static electricity when we%26#39;re around rugs or carpets too long. also ever get a charge when u touch a washing machine n some other metal object while the machine is washing. the closer u get 2 the radio the more it receives electromagnetic charges which neutralizes whatever static ur radio is receiving. the antenna is there to act as a buffer between the signal coming into the radio n the sinal coming out. this is why that happens. just move the antenna some or the radio from its present location n it should b ok. u%26#39;ll still probably affect it though when u reach towards it. What is happening is your body is acting as an antenna for the radio. You are focusing the radio waves and the static is lessening. Likewise, when you move away, you no longer act as an antenna and the static comes back. Your body acts as part of the antenna. It%26#39;s not just you. Your radio is using you as an extended antenna. Sometimes you can fix this by using a real antenna or pointing the antenna in the right direction. Your alarm clock probably has and internal antenna so you won%26#39;t be able to add one without taking it apart. Try moving it to different places in the room. As for your stereo, it should have a wire antenna, you can try extending it or pointing it in different directions. Sometimes your body or clothing acts as a receptor for electricity. It may also be that some of the transistor waves need to be blocked. The radio may be getting too many.. causing it in turn to get static.
