I have a small Sony cd boombox that has a AM/FM radio, cassette deck and CD player. I also have a TIMEX CD/clock/radio. Both are having the same problem when I play a cd I can hear a "shadowy" or ghost-like radio station. It%26#39;s not as loud as the cd music, but I can hear it distinctly and it drives me crazy. I%26#39;ve moved the radio frequency dial around while I play a cd to no avail. I have no idea which radio station it is either but it%26#39;s always the same station, even if I move the radio channel dial. Can I take apart and dismantle the radio receiver somehow? Would ripping off the attenae work? I only really want to use the CD/clock aspect as I rarely ever listen to the radio outside the car. Thanks for your help!
Answer:
You probably have a local station that is getting into your circuits. It probably isn%26#39;t your radio tuner that%26#39;s doing it, since it you%26#39;ve tried changing the station and that doesn%26#39;t get rid of it.
This can happen with inexpensive equipment that skimps on the shielding to keep external signals out of the electronics.
You should try slowly rotating the radios and see if you can find a position that gets rid of the problem.
The other thing you can do, since it%26#39;s noticeable, is call the station and complain that you can hear them when you%26#39;re listening to CD%26#39;s. They may have accidentally missed something during their last maintenance session, so now they are accidentally broadcasting into your equipment. They are required by law not to interfere with other stations or electronics, so they should take it seriously. If they don%26#39;t investigate the problem or fix it, complain to the FCC. They should enforce the regulations and get the problem fixed (eventually).
