Why do NiMH batteries get hot? and how hot is too hot ?

my son has an electric bb gun and the dog chewed up his battery charger so i bought another on but the battery gets really hot so hot you cant hold it. why and what can i do about it if anything

IMPORTANT: do not charge te batteries again with that charger or they may explode or cause an injery.

you have to choose the right charger for the batteries check the charger is for nimh batteries.

in general the batteries gets warm on full charge but just a little not that too hot. you just feel as much heat as when u rubbing your hands fast to get warm.

probabely the charger is damaged you can test it with another batteries. so first replace the batteries and check every half over to see how hot are them if they act as the other batteries immediately take them out and if you can return the charger to the seller and describe the problem.
