Apparently it is to keep in line with Scotland, who have longer and darker mornings in winter. They did away with it one year and I believe there was a dreadful coach accident in which many children were killed. So they brought it back.
Basically, it is to keep the children safer on their way to schools. because the government thought it would stop traffic problems like crashes as it would be lighter. Also that we go on the sun and the sun gets higher in the summer so the clocks should go forward to correspond with the sun! So that when the light goes up for the diferent seasons it%26#39;s more suitable for it. Just makes the summer easier to enjoy with the warm weather and the light. vice versa for winter. because we are nuts and why it was done in the first place no longer applies still we do get to get an extra hour in bed at the start of winter but it takes me about a week to adjust my body clock You mean daylight saving? It started in England during WW2, the government found the country could save electricity by making people get up an hour earlier in summer to take advantage of the earlier sunrise. basically to add more daylight in the afternoons to benefit everyone... the economy, traffic issues, consumers, etc etc.. It%26#39;s just to throw everybody into disarray twice a year. In my opinion it is totally stupid and unnecessary. Put simply it%26#39;s to make the most of the daylight time for workers. It%26#39;s much better to work using the extra summer daylight to work by for practical and also working morale reasons. I just heard this report on the radio about 3 minutes ago. It helps the economy by giving people an extra hour of daylight. The arguement is it saves energy, but the electricity saved is offset by driving to the mall and the golf course. The extra hour of daylight translates into extra billions of dollars spent. Retailers were the ones that pushed for the extra 5 weeks this year. because some bonehead in the capitals says so --- where i live in Queensland we don%26#39;t have daylight saving and we don%26#39;t want daylight saving because what our southern cousins do not realise is that if they were living in 40 c . and try and put their kids to bed ( just because the selfish southerners want an extra hour ) would they seriously want an extra hour !! we shouldn%26#39;t be put under the %26#39; hammer %26#39; just to please the Southerners --- we ( in Queensland ) are more than the rest of the country appreciate and if our premier (Beatie ) ever introduced it ; he would be voted out big time !
