I think gilloz is correct, and grogster%26#39;s addendum is on target, so the answer is no, likely it will not damage it, but also be sure to look at the output current rating of the device you are proposing to use for compatibility, and don%26#39;t forget to make sure the DC plug%26#39;s polarity matches also. Absolutely not. Go for it! It really doesn%26#39;t matter small deviations in voltage on electric devices, but you could have problems with electronic devices. I think it depends on what type of device your using becuase i had a alarm clock and I used the wrong plug and it messed up but maybe thats not a big enough difference plus it matters if its negative or positive and all that i believe dont quote me though I concur.

Also, if your adapter measures 9.6v with no load, I can almost guarantee that the under-load voltage will drop below 9v anyway, so if I may paraphrase one of the other members here: "Go for it."
