My Sony DVD Player plays all downloaded 350mb TV shows as DIVX but as soon as I burn the better resolution files of 700mb on DVD it tells me Data Error?! Ain%26#39;t both the same type of .avi file?
Answer:
HI there,
in some cases, old (!!) DVD players won%26#39;t get more than 240 horizontal lines (AVI QVGA) 288 lines (VCD MPEG1) or 480 lines (SVCD MPEG2). Those will be translated to the 525 (US) or 625 (EU) lines of your TV set, with clear image loss.
DivX files from any source will be encoded in native resolution. If the capture was made from HDTV or DVD, you may have 768 lines (at least in Europe). Nowadays, High-Definition video uses 720 or 1080 lines. Either of the three formats may not be readable by your current player, and they can be properly recorded and not corrupt. You may be able to see them in your PC without problems.
In a best case you can upgrade your player software (via CD, serial port or rather USB) so that "shrinking" functions are included. But most likely, you will need a new player... keep the HD videos for the future one.
Good luck! Some big brands like Sony or Pansonic cant play everything. You should get the Phillips dvd it will play everything avi, dvd+,
dvd-, etc etc etc I am not sure what format of disc you are using, but I am thinking maybe you are using a DVD-R? If that is the case, try using a DVD+R or RW. Either that or the disc you are burning may be bad.
