Why are the outlets different in europe?

I ordered something from England and I cant plug it into my outlet WTF!

Answer:

It%26#39;s to make sure you don%26#39;t plug something that runs on 220 VAC (from England) into 110 VAC (in the US %26 Canada) and mess it up.

If it can actually run on 220 and 110 VAC, then the mfg should have a power cord you can buy that will plug into your item and a US/Can socket.
